News and Notes
We are excited to announce that there will be Yoga on the Farm! Starting April 3rd, we will be offering a Saturday morning yoga session with instructor Vanessa Norrell. Vanessa has offered classes at places like Easton Yoga, YogaMos, The Roost, Baransu Yoga Studio, and more. Here are a few words on the class...

"This class is a set sequence of postures linked together with vinyasa (flow movement) in order to build heat in the body. The aim is for every breath taken to be a conscious one, creating a moving meditation. The set sequence is a consistent flow of dynamic movement designed to stretch and strengthen your body and to allow breath and energy to flow through your body easily."

This classes will take place from 9:30 am to 10:45 am and the sessions will be offered every Saturday in April. This is a test run for us and look forward to hopefully offering more in the near future. Class size will be limited to 8 people. Fitness Tip of the Week
How to Knock the Rust Off and Get Back in the Gym!
When it comes down to training optimally, I believe it comes down to three things: Mobility, Capacity, and Strength. Mobility is our ability to carry out a task in a safe and efficient manner. Capacity is our bodies ability to do work over a period of time. Strength is our bodies ability to perform a given task that requires a certain amount of force. When you think about putting a training program together, these three concepts should be considered.

Lately, I have been playing around with this idea. For every strength move that I do, which is only 4 exercises, I will perform a mobility exercise and a weighted carry (capacity) prior. For example, if I were doing a squat, the format would be something like this: Six Point Rock, Suitcase Carry, then Squat. In this case, the Six Point Rock opens up the hips, the Suitcase Carry enforces good posture and strengthens the core musculature while carrying a weight for distance or time, and the Squat is there to boost strength and/or build some muscle. I have been feeling pretty darn good doing this and will most likely keep this format in the foreseeable future.

What I've Been Listening To...
Empire of the Summer Moon: Quanah Parker and the Rise and Fall of the Comanches, the Most Powerful Indian Tribe in American History by S.C. Gwynne
The past few months I have been getting into reading about the history of our country. After reading two books regarding animals of the Great Plains, I decided to give this one a listen. This book tells a few stories, one of which is of Cynthia Ann Parker, who, at the tender age of 9, witnessed an Indian raid on her families property and was taken as a captive. She stayed with the Indians for 24 years and become entrenched in their society. Then, one day, she was once again taken against her will. This time, it was by white settlers who wanted to return her to her "home". The thing they didn't realize was that to Cynthia Ann, her home was with the Indians. During her time with the Indians she started a family, and, fast forward a few decades, her son became the "last chief" of the Plains Indians. His name was Quanah Parker.

In addition to that crazy tale, you learn about life on the Plains, the creation of the Texas Rangers, the Federal governments plan to destroy the American Indian, and more!

What I've Been Watching...
NCAA Wrestling Championships on ESPN+
There are only a few times each year that ESPN covers Collegiate wrestling and last weekend was one of them. After missing the tournament in real time, I started watching the replays this week and was reminded of how great the sport is. This years tournament had story lines that included a winner being crowned champ with no ACL's, a freshmen beating a man who was 5th in the World, a local wrestler making it to the finals, and lastly, the story of the Stanford wrestler who won the championship in the final season for that program. If that kid doesn't inspire the school to keep wrestling (and the 12 million dollars raised by donors) I don't know what will. While everyone else is worried about their brackets, I will be shifting my focus to March MATness over the next couple of days!
